In college we didn't have crown molding
We had rope lights
Which cast a glow heaven like
Especially at night
Where we would sit around
Open souls on worn couches
And dirty floors believing this is exactly
What the rest of our lives would be like
In college we didn't have work weeks
We had weeks
That blended with the weekends
As we waded in fog without concern
We thought we could
Light the candle on both ends
And never get burned
The parties were great and they were
Great in their weight as we sank into
Ourselves
We were everything and nothing at once
We acted polished
But secretly relished the dust
In college we didn't think about tomorrow
Now tomorrow keeps us up at night
We felt the moment without trying to
We felt hope without hesitation
We were ready for true experience
And epic exaltation
Of life lived in unreal places
Parties that didn't turn sad
We thought we were adults
But didn't carry the baggage adults have
Days with classes
But we stopped for coffee
And to talk to acquaintances and friends
Yea, the work took some effort
But the effort wasn't draining
It was just a momentary break
During a four year vacation
